Joseph Leroy Tucker was born on September 19, 1947 to the late Willie Alphonso Tucker and Hattie Lucille Conyers Tucker. He peacefully departed this life at Duke Medicine Pavilion Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
After graduating high school, Joe joined the United States Marine Corps.
Joe was known for being a VERY private man, a man of few words, and a man that made an impact on your life if you were ever allowed in his space. He LOVED reading his Sunday News & Observer Newspaper and watching a good old fashioned Western.
His wife, Ida Battle Tucker, preceded him in death on October 27, 2006.
Those left to treasure his memories are: six children, Constance Alston, Neal Alston (Constance), Joseph L. Tucker, Jr. (Tawanda) and Sylvester Tucker all of Louisburg, NC, Angie Noble (Thomas) of Henderson, NC and Leon Tucker of Detroit, MI; two stepchildren, Hope Wright (Tracy) and Dondrall Alston (Whitney) both Louisburg, NC; five brothers, Jimmy Tucker (Mona) of Greensboro, NC, Larry Tucker (Angie) of Hawaii, James “Butch” Tucker (Rose), Antonio “Tony” Tucker (Jerrlynn) and Samuel (Ricky) Tucker all of Newport News, VA; four sisters, Lucille Troy (Elonzie), Diane Rollins (David) and Annette Parham (Al) all of Hampton, VA and Denise Tucker of Newport News, VA; twenty-two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Louise Person of Castalia, NC, MaryAnn Alston of Concord, NC and Barbara Jordan of Louisburg, NC; one brother-in-law, John A. Battle of Henderson, NC; his children’s mother, Lottie Tucker; his military buddy, Sandra Bolden; his neighborhood friends, Donnell and Linda Crudup; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
