Deacon Gregory Johnson, 88, of Louisburg, North Carolina finished his race on March 13, 2020 at WakeMed Center.
Deacon Johnson was born on October 16, 1931 to Shepard and Mary Dean Johnson in Franklin County, North Carolina. He was one of eight children; six of them preceded him in death.
Deacon Johnson received his primary education under the Franklin County School system. He was a graduate from B. F. Person High School where he met the love of his life, Rochelle Person. Shortly thereafter in July of 1954, the two joined in holy matrimony. From this union, eight children were born, the eldest Anthony Johnson is deceased.
In order to provide for his family, Deacon Johnson worked tirelessly in manufacturing plants for over thirty years in the Louisburg/Raleigh area until retirement. Deacon Johnson continued to serve his community after retirement, by working as a bus driver for seventeen years; impacting the lives of many children.
Deacon Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and joined Allen Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. As many of us, he strayed from the path, however when he returned to the church, he had a zeal and a thirst for the knowledge of God. This zeal and thirst never wavered upon his return which led to him serving in different capacities in several ministries at the Church including as Sunday School Superintendent and Church Trustee. In the 1980’s, he answered God’s call to the Deacon ministry. During his tenure, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Deacon board until he was no longer physically able to serve.
During his lifetime, Deacon Johnson served in the community as a faithful member of the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge #393 Prince Hall affiliated until his health declined.
