Minister Ross Martin Alston “Marty” was born on May 6, 1969 in Littleton, North Carolina to Oria Alston and the late Raymond Alston. He received the Master’s call on June 16, 2018 at 10:41a.m. in Greenville, North Carolina.
He was baptized at an early age and joined the Odell Missionary Baptist Church. He later rededicated his life to Christ and on March 29, 2015 became an ordained minister serving as an Associate Minister at the Odell Missionary Baptist Church until his untimely death.
“Marty” received his formal education in the public schools of Warren County where he graduated from Warren County High School in 1988. He continued his education at Halifax and Vance-Granville Community Colleges. During his employment at Walmart DC he was recognized for his outstanding job performance receiving numerous awards and certificates.
In 1996 Marty met the love of his life, Doris Johnson. They were united in holy matrimony on October 8, 1999 and this union was blessed with four children. Marty loved life and especially loved his family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need no matter the day nor hour. If you called on him, he was there.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Brenda Wilson and three brothers, William, Raymond and James.
He leaves with cherished and everlasting memories of his love and devotion: his wife, Doris Johnson Alston of the home; his children, Mar’Deja Shania and Ke’Undra Samara both of the home, Melonie Brinson-Hawkins (Sedrick) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Antonio “Chug” Richardson of Hollister, NC; twelve grandchildren, Damontae, Tamarion, Jakalia, Tyques, Jakari, Ja’Veon, Zy’Kelya, Kie’Ari, Dezyii, Sedrick, Jr., K’Vionne and Ma’Kaylah; his mother, Oria Alston of Littleton, NC; his mother-in-law, Elnora Johnson of Hollister, NC; a mother at heart, Louise Pulley of Arcola, NC; four brothers, Vernon (Carolyn), Byron, Dorian (Mabel) and Steve (Annie); four sisters, Mattie Courtney (Ernie), Verlean Robinson, Petula Metzler (Ken) and Stacy Alston (Warren); two sisters-in-law, Georgia Harvey (Luke) and Joyce Johnson (Joe); three brothers-in-law, Carl Johnson, Leonard Johnson (Doris) and Rev. Melvin Johnson (Josephine); one aunt, Ada Alston; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
