Mae Bell Joyner was born on June 3, 1918. She was the daughter of the late William and Novella Monroe of Franklin County, North Carolina. She fell asleep in death on Friday morning, January 4, 2019 at her home.
Mae Bell met and married Erastus Joyner on October 20, 1939. To this union five children were born. Erastus and three children, Joseph, Norman and Edith preceded her in death.
Mae Bell was a spiritual minded person and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Louisburg, North Carolina at an early age. There she served faithfully throughout her life. She served for many years as a member of the Senior Choir of which she was the last remaining ones of the original members.
Mae Bell loved quilting, cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Annie Richardson of Adelphi, MD and Alma Rittenhouse of Riverdale, MD; a loving daughter-in-law, Thelma Joyner of Franklinton, NC; ten grandchildren, Barbara Robinson (Larry) of Cocoa, FL, Shervon Hogsett of Lawrenceville, GA, Darren Joyner of Yonkers, NY, Gary Joyner of Lawrenceville, GA, Timothy Moore (Mona) of Durham, NC, Sherry Handy (Alex) of Raleigh, NC, Tanita Carter (Rodney) of Severn, MD, Patrick Rittenhouse (Chada) of Lanham, MD, Richard Rittenhouse of Largo, MD and Brittany Joyner of Franklinton, NC; twelve great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one beloved first cousin, Louise Simmons of Louisburg, NC; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mae Bell has left a void in many hearts, as she will be truly missed.
