Mae Etta Crudup

    Mae Etta Crudup was born on August 6, 1926 to the late Reverend Herbert B. Floyd and Emma Mitchell Floyd in Franklin County, North Carolina.  She departed this life on May 21, 2018 at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg, North Carolina.  She was ninety-one at her death. 

    Mae Etta was educated in the Franklin County School System. She graduated from Gethsemane High School in 1943. 

    She joined the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member until she moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey. She returned back to North Carolina in the late 1980’s, and remained an active member until her health failed. 

    Before moving to New Jersey, she worked at the State College Fraternity House in Raleigh, North Carolina as a cook. While living in New Jersey, she worked at Beatrice Home Fashion for many years. 

    Mae Etta truly had a gift of being a good seamstress.  She was known for making most of the outfits that she wore and she wore them gracefully.  She loved doing things for herself as long as she could do things for herself.  She continued to drive until she was ninety years old. 

    She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Floyd and Johnnie C. Floyd, Sr., two sisters, Orester Clemons and Lelar Bell Floyd, three nephews, Zollie D. Floyd, Johnny C. Floyd, Jr. and Henry Floyd  and one niece, Emma Jean Hollenbeck. 

    She leaves to cherish her memory: nine nephews, McArthur Clemons (Lucille) of Raleigh, NC, Herbert Clemons of Bowie, MD, Clarence Clemons (Ernestine) of Raleigh, NC, Nathaniel Clemons, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Claude Earl Floyd (Evangelina) of  Summerville, SC, James Floyd (Dwendolyn) of Youngsville, NC, Coy Floyd (Tanika) of Franklinton, NC, Frankie Jones of Richmond, VA and Eric Floyd of Raleigh, NC; three nieces, Laura Conyers of Bunn, NC, Phyllis Wilkerson (Russell) of Richmond, VA and Johnetta Floyd of Louisburg, NC; two sisters-in-law, Yvonnie C. Brown and Esteen C. Jones of New Jersey; three nieces-in-law, Mary Floyd of Louisburg, NC, Claudette Floyd of Orange Park, FL and Jane Floyd of Massachusetts; several great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
