Leora Hayes, daughter of the late Jerry Taylor and Betty Tom Norwood was the oldest girl of four born in Nash County, North Carolina on May 9, 1927. She departed this life June 11, 2018.
Leora was educated in the public schools of North Carolina. She was a Daycare Operator in Glenarden, Maryland for over twenty years. Leora was also a Nurses Assistant - GW Unit Hospital in Washington, District of Columbia. She relocated back to Louisburg, North Carolina in 1990.
Leora was an awesome woman of God, in Maryland she joined St. Paul AME Church and remained faithful to God when she moved back to Louisburg, North Carolina. She volunteered at the recreation center.
Leora was united in marriage to George W. Hayes on July 4, 1952. This union was blessed with three loving daughters.
Leora loved helping others. She raised her younger sister, Bettie starting at age ten. They talked daily. Bettie said, “anything she needed, her sister always made sure she got it”. She loved all her brothers and sisters and kept in contact with all of them.
Leora was preceded in death by five siblings, Frank, Elliott, Pearl, Clarence and Jerry.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, George Washington Hayes of the home; her loving daughter, Diane Hayes Davis of Washington, DC; two sisters, Almeda Taylor Williams (George) of Rocky Mount, NC and Bettie Wright of Flint, MI; one grandchild; three great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.
