James Thomas “Tom” Terrell, Sr., was born to George Terrell and Georgeanna Hedgepeth in Louisburg, North Carolina on October 7, 1927. He was one of eight children. He departed this life April 30, 2018 peacefully at his home.
“Tom” was blessed with fourteen children and two stepsons and always remained a loving and caring father to all his children. Tom’s great work ethic and commitment to family was learned at an early age. Because of his dedication and desire to provide for his family, he chose to forego his education and worked several jobs to support his family. He retired from Smith and Rowe Construction Company at age seventy.
Tom was a man of God and a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he joined at a young age. He served as Usher, Choir member, Grounds Keeper and Trustee. He attended Sunday School, Bible Study and Food Bank Ministry weekly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charity J. Terrell, one daughter, Flossie Terrell, his oldest grandson, Thomas “Buckeye” Terrell, three brothers, Benjamin, Willie and Walter Terrell and three sisters, Mary Terrell, Virginia Bullock, Lillie Kelly.
He leaves to cherish his memory: five sons, James Terrell (Janie), Michael Terrell and Wayne Terrell (Wendy) all of Louisburg, NC, Willie Terrell (Felecia) of Youngsville, NC and Ronald Terrell of Laurel, MD; eight daughters, Mamie Perry (Victor), Pattie Jones (Jimmy), Fairy Williams and Barbara Terrell all of Louisburg, NC, Joyce Campbell (James) of Durham, NC, Ester Terrell of Raleigh, NC, Carolyn Crudup (Ernest) of Franklinton, NC and Mary Robinson (Patrick) of Wake Forest, NC; two stepsons, Daniel Terrell (Debra) and Willie Hill (Cynthia) both of Louisburg, NC; one sister, Ida Kelly of Louisburg, NC; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one aunt, Cittie Green Debnam of Youngsville, NC; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and lifelong friends.
