J. R. Harris, also known as “Pappy” was born on January 17, 1936 in Granville County, North Carolina to the late Patty Lou Harris and Johnny Harris. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Franklin Oaks in Louisburg, North Carolina.
J. R. joined Union Grove after marrying and moving to the Youngsville area. He loved hearing God’s word and gospel music. He would worship at Union Grove and other churches and attend musical programs throughout the area. He had a passion for listening to gospel programs on the radio and playing records and CDs.
J. R. worked for a brick company in Durham for many years. He retired from Huyck Formex/Weavexx in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He also had a real passion for working odd jobs and assisting others.
His favorite activity was talking to friends, neighbors and people he met. He was a doer and helper to others. When his father became ill, he assisted with the care of his two younger sisters, Ethel Mae and Mary Alice.
Although he is now gone from this earthly life, he will never be forgotten by his family and friends who truly loved and appreciated him for who he was. He is now free from all earthly pain and sickness. God chose to relieve him of any further suffering.
J. R. leaves memories to be forever cherished by his wife of fifty-two years, Janet McCowan Harris of the home, children, grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
