Charlie Thomas Lawrence was born on July 14, 1931 in Granville Co., North Carolina to his loving parents, Connie Way Lawrence and Gladys Wiggins Lawrence. He went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 20, 2018.
Charlie accepted Christ at an early age, when he was baptized at Pope’s Chapel United Church of Christ in Franklinton, North Carolina.
Charlie was educated in the North Carolina Public School System. As a young man, Charlie worked tirelessly on the local farm. He would soon move to New York in search of a better life. Upon arriving in New York, he was soon gainfully employed as a construction worker. Charlie remained in New York for many years. He loved and lived life to the fullest. When his health began to decline, he moved back to North Carolina to conclude his circle of life.
Charlie’s presence will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Connie Way Lawrence, mother, Gladys Wiggins Lawrence, brother, June Lawrence, sons, Charles Lawrence, Jr. and Larry Lawrence and other cherished family members.
He leaves to cherish his love and memory: his five children, Vonice Jones (Reginald) of Brownstownship, MI, Thomas Lawrence, Kevin Lawrence and Christopher Lawrence all of New York, NY and Ophelia Hilliard (Jimmie) of Franklinton, NC; five brothers, James Lawrence (Shirley), Robert Lawrence (Elouise) and Earl Lawrence all of Boston, MA, C.W. Lawrence of Franklinton, NC and Joe Alston (Margaret) of Virginia Beach, VA; five sisters, Rosa Lee Lawson and Annie Mae Fields of Pittsburgh, PA and Viola Jefferies, Mary Powell (Travis) and Dorothy Jeffes all of Boston, MA; fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
