Carolyn Bowden Strickland, daughter of the late David and Sallie Arrington Bowden, was born July 5, 1945 in Nash County, North Carolina. She was called to rest on Friday, June 22, 2018 at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
At an early age, Carolyn joined the Lettuce Hall Baptist Church in Springhope, North Carolina then later joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church where she remained until her health failed. She also visited Cedar Rock Baptist Church also in Castalia, North Carolina.
Carolyn attended Perry’s High in Centerville, North Carolina. She was married to the late Willie Lee Strickland and from this union two children were born, Lori and DeSean.
Carolyn was employed at the Sun Terrance and Burlington Industries. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing Bingo and other family games.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, David and Sallie; two brothers, David Earl and Eddie Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Lori Strickland of Louisburg, NC; her son, DeSean Strickland (Tina) of Bunn, NC; two brothers, Robert Bowden of Greensboro, NC and Bobby Bowden (Frances) of the home; seven sisters, Dorothy Surratt (William), Lucille Collins, Susie Trader, Iva Hazelwood and Annie B. Bowden all of Louisburg, NC, Sallie Williams (Lawrence) of Kinston, NC and Bernice Whitted of Durham, NC; two brothers-in-law, Al Sidney Strickand (Annie) and James Strickland (Shirley); four grandchildren, Shekema, PreShus, Johnica (Terry, Jr.) and Suron; four great grandchildren, Antonio, Amiyah, Harmony and Shad; friends who were like sisters, Lillie Alston, Pearl Lynch, Wyvonnia Arrington and a special friend, Cindy Hunt; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
